J&K Congress to Omar: Register DA case against MLA Harshdev Singh

National Bureau/ In the backdrop of latest disclosures in print media made by Youth Congress unit of Ramnagar regarding movable/immoveable property, possessed by Harshdev Singh, MLA Ramnagar, a deputation of Udhampur unit of Congress led by Brij Mohan Sharma, senior Congress leader, demanded Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to order a detailed inquiry into his entire property details.

“Mr. Singh needs to be put to strict proof as to how he has accumulated moveable/immovable property worth crores when his known source of income is only the salary and allowances admissible to an MLA,” said Sharma in a memorandum  to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah through the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur.

The memorandum mentions details of property projected by Harsh while filing nominations for Assembly elections – 2008.

The copy of memorandum also says that Harsh has possessed unaccounted properties. “Also, there are other nami/benami properties possessed by MLA Ramnagar which have not been accounted for by him in his election-affidavit.  Also that MLA Ramnagar has been riding a Black Scorpio (Reg No. JK14 - 6767 and his wife has been brandishing a brand new BMW - car which have not been accounted for by him in his affidavit or his returns before Assembly secretariat. He has also not accounted for another 9 kanals of land around Mansar lake purchased from Mohd. Din, Lal Din and Bashir (three brothers) in the name of his business partner, who is owner of a lead publishing house in Jammu. He has also not accounted for another 4 kanals of land in the name of his son-in-law, Anil Singh teacher, (out of which 2 kanals has been purchased from Lal Din and another 2 kanals from Shiv Kumar S/O Tula Ram R/O Mansar. He has also not accounted for 24 kanals of land purchased by him near Heritage School at Sainik Colony, Jammu.”

Wondering that such a huge property has been raised by him and he not availed of any loan, finance from any Bank/Financial Institution; The Udhampur Congress said that “we accordingly seek registration of a criminal case against Harshdev Singh, MLA Ramnagar, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.”

The memorandum also raises alleged involvement of Harsh in various scandals. “We also pray for unfolding of the vicious politician-contractor scandal in Ramnagar. We also seek inquiry into as to where 50-odd crores of money spent in Ramnagar by IWDP (Ramnagar) have went away. We also seek a detailed inquiry into as to how his CDF of MLA Ramnagar, Non-plan and additionalites have been spent in Ramnagar in full face of codal formalities by his relatives and cronies right from 1996 till today. “

Talking about the Politician-contractor scandal, the memorandum also says, “We also pray for unfolding the vicious politician-contractor scandal in Ramnagar. We also seek a detailed inquiry into as to how his CDF of MLA Ramnagar, Non-plan and additionalites worth Rs. 284.024 lacs have been spent in Ramnagar in full face of codal formalities by his relatives and cronies right from 1996 till today.”

“Cash-for-vote in MLC elections: - We also reiterate our demand seeking de-seating of three ‘defiant’ MLAs of JKNPP for violating the party directive and not voting for their respective party candidates. We had demanded a CBI inquiry into the infamous ‘cash-for-vote’ scandal. It is very pertinent to mention here that just like the BJP MLAs, the MLAs of Panthers Party had also voted against the party directive and for PDP candidates.”

The signatories to the demand-requisition included Shakeel Shah, P.C.C. Secretary, District Youth Congress President, Sumeet Magotra, Sham Samotra, General Secretary, DCC Udhampur, District Mahila Congress President, Taro Devi, Shivam Sharma, NSUI district president, District Congress Migrant Cell President Sher Singh, Ravi Shastri, District President Rajiv Gandhi brigade, Sohan Lal sarpanch, Rajesh Gupta, District Chief Organizer, Seva Dal, Anant Ram Drahi, District SC/ST Cell President, Girdhari Lal Basnotra, Dharam Chand,  Dharam Chand and others.

The memorandum was also sent to Vigilance Commissioner J & K, Jammu;   Private Secretary  to Governor, and Private Secretary to J&K Assembly Speaker.
